Thomas Knüsel – Biography
Zurich based artist Thomas Knüsel studied Fine Arts (MA) at Zurich University of the Arts and the Lucerne University of Art and Design (HSLU D&K, BA). In 2012, he co-founded the short lived artist-run off space Zollhaus Luzern.
Besides his artistic career he worked on several projects with Disney Research Lab Zürich and is currently working on a project of ZHdK in collaboration with a team of researchers from NCCR Molecular Systems Engineering in Basel. In this context, he participated in the exhibition ‚Side Effects‘ 2017, with an installation examining and probing prototyped model realities, contexts which are supposed to support our thinking and delineate fields where our mind may flow. With that topic he hosted a series of meetings devoted to the production of images, image economies and visual practices, a space to discuss the parallels and differences on the production and use of images in art and science.
His artistic practice focuses on media art, 3D animation and installations. Thomas works with model-like imagery and scientific aesthetics, questioning the relation between scientific certainty and subjective perception in visual representation, objects and systems.
