Exhibition Emmenbrücke Genius Loci #2

Exhibition at Werkschau 2014

In 2016 the Lucerne School of Art and Design will move into the Monosuisse, a former industrial complex in Emmenbrücke near Luzern. Since 2012 students and staff of Camera Arts are working on an ongoing exploration about the urban, social and economic conditions of Emmenbrücke. In this hybrid place they engage with specific situations and try to understand these contexts. The students document affairs and build relationships with local people, who turn out to be the specialists of their place.

This year a concept book titled “Emmenbrücke Genius Loci #2” has been developed. Included are observations, stories, questions, and statements.

In addition the large Monosuisse site and the building 745, which will be the future home base of the Lucerne School of Art and Design, has been documented before construction work will transform the building.

The core of the works have been developed by this year’s BA1 students, where urban exploration is an integral part of the curriculum. For various 2nd year students the dynamics of Emmenbrücke still serve as an incentive and inspiration for creative production.
The curated exhibition has been installed in occasion of the graduation show 2014 of the Lucerne School of Art and Design. Five illuminated columns stage a visual essay about the town Emmenbrücke, the Monosuisse complex and Building 745.
