10 Years After

Revisiting ‘Deep Sites’ with design writer Max Bruinsma

Deep Sites, Thames & Hudsons, 2003

About the book (2002):
New technologies and applications, along with ever-more-sophisticated compression techniques and broadband services, have accelerated the growth of the web and the number of its users over the last two or three years – and given rise to a great variety of innovations and experimentations. The first of its kind, this book matches the critical issues and discourses of the new media with cutting-edge web design in six introductory essays and over 130 website reviews.

From 13 – 15 March 2013 Max Bruinsma, former chief editor Eye Magazine and international design writer, lectured in the module ‘Editorial Photography & Media Design’ about visual media and web design. As a very early adaptor, Bruinsma emphesized on the young history of web technology and design.

In 2002 he published ‘Deep Sites’ at Thames & Hudsons in London. Together with Camera Arts students he re-visited his publication and invited students to compare the photography, design and naviagtion strategies of ten years ago with today’s web design.
