Andrea Diefenbach joins Camera Arts

From September 2016 the German photographer, Andrea Diefenbach will join the team of the Visual Communication department – Camera Arts at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts, School of Art and Design. Her main focus areas will be teaching and the further development of the CA Stream Editorial Photography alongside the other CA Streams.

Andrea Diefenbach is a freelance photographer. She studied at the University of Applied Science in Bielefeld, works with German and international magazines and organizations, as well as on her personal long-term projects. For her critical and incisive reflection of social situations she has received several prizes (such as the Photographic Museum of Humanity Grant, 2014; n-ost-Reportage Prize, 2012; and Abisag-Tüllmann Prize, 2013). Andrea Diefenbach has received grants from the VG Bild-Kunst, the DAAD, the Robert Bosch Foundation, and the Wüstenrot Foundation. Her first book, “СПИД [spid] AIDS in Odessa,” about the AIDS epidemic in the Ukraine, was published in 2008 followed by exhibitions in Hamburg, Mannheim, and New York, among other venues. Her second book, “Land ohne Eltern,” (Country without Parents), was published in November 2012, and a second edition recently published in June 2016. For more than two years she followed the life of Moldovan migrant workers in Italy, as well as that of their children staying back in Moldova.
