Entering meditation
Kim Hüppin
The spiritual, health and religion-promoting meditation market in Switzerland is growing steadily. Over 160 Buddhist meditation centers, groups and monasteries alone were counted in 2021. Over 56% of the Swiss population considers religion and spirituality to be helpful in difficult life situations.
Besides questionable offers with quick promises of salvation, Kim Hüppin raises questions about traditional meditation goals. Based on conversations with meditation experts, she gains insights into classical techniques. She is surprised to find that the disidentification of one›s own thoughts is nevertheless a basic principle running through all the meditations she examines.
Inside four walls, the author shows a light installation in combination with her own designed meditation exercise, that visitors can follow on yoga mats and headphones. Afterwards, a participatory task can be solved on the first outer wall. On the second outer wall, the experts› talks are available via headphones, supplemented by large-format aura photographs.
