disillusion | revolution

Kira Barlach and Kim Jonas Meier

Next to globally increasing social inequality, the ecological consequences of the capitalist production system have reached a devastating level on a planetary scale. While increasing masses of people are existentially compromised, and successful climate protection would demand a drastic reduction of the use of natural resources, the global economy continues following the expansion model.

The urgency of ending this contradiction and abandoning the exclusive focus on profit is known since the 1970s. Still, effective measures have yet to be taken. Even today, many who carry responsibility in politics, the industry, and agriculture, as well as many citizens, play down or ignore the dimensions of the current crisis. A fundamental system change seems unavoidable.

The video installation disillusion | revolution points at the ambivalence, which activists experience in the laborious battle for a new System. The work oscillates between zest and overwhelming disenchantment; perhaps nothing can be changed fundamentally in the foreseeable future, at all.
